Prateek Kuhad, born in Jaipur on 3rd March, 1990, has become India’s Indie heart-throb with his angelic voice and heartfelt lyrics, capturing hearts wherever he goes. Singing in both Hindi and English, Kuhad’s music explores folk genres and Americana with acoustic sounds and innovative song structures, acoustic guitar being his primary instrument. Kuhad learnt to play the guitar at the age of 16 and started songwriting in his late teens. He attended New York University before moving to Delhi to pursue a full-time music career.

Kuhad discovered singer-songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and Elliot Smith, who he cites as a major influence, during his time in NYU. It wasn’t until his college years that he truly developed as musician, playing local shows around New York. Since his debut in 2011 – the eponymous album ‘Prateek Kuhad’, he has released five critically acclaimed albums and numerous singles, the most renowned of which are ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’, ‘cold/mess’, ‘Kasoor’ and ‘Tum Jab Paas’. Kuhad became the first Indian musician to be signed by the American music label Elektra records in 2020. Kuhad catapulted to global recognition after the breakup song ‘Cold/Mess’ was featured on former U.S. President Barack Obama’s annual list of favourite songs in 2019. Kuhad’s intricately layered music highlights his profound lyrics, which are often ambiguous and explore the themes of love, relationships and his personal experiences. Do you listen to Prateek Kuhad?
